HPV World Championships - Italy 2025
We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the recent achievements of Philippe Descubes and Jimmy Hubbard, who both competed at this year’s HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) World Championships in Italy.
The championships brought together some of the most skilled and passionate riders from across the globe, and Philippe and Jimmy truly rose to the occasion. Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of human-powered performance paid off with fantastic results on the international stage.
Philippe and Jimmy’s achievements are not only a testament to their personal drive and talent, but also a brilliant example of how perseverance and passion can lead to remarkable success.
A huge well done to you both – we at ICE Trikes are inspired by your determination and proud to see your efforts recognised on the world stage!
The event was held during July 11, 12 and 13, 2025, with three days of races that unfolded between the suggestive locations of Meina, Arona and Gattico-Veruno, immersed in the natural setting of Lake Maggiore and the Novara hills.
In Italy, this sector still represents a niche, with extraordinary vehicles like recumbent bicycles, tricycles and velomobiles remaining little known to the general public, who are mostly tied to the traditional idea of a bicycle. Moreover, even conventional bicycles struggle to be considered a true means of transport, penalized by a culture that favors the automobile.
This event, therefore, does not wish to limit itself to promoting a unique sports discipline but aims to raise public awareness on fundamental issues for a more sustainable, human-scale future, not one dominated by motor vehicles. It is a rare and precious opportunity to highlight not only the beauty of these innovative vehicles (and places) but also to spark a dialogue on the mobility of tomorrow, combining technology, ecology, and passion in an engaging, all-around experience.
Jimmy Hubbard
Jimmy, a Plymouth doctor, had a severe stroke six years ago at the age of 30. Determined not to give up cycling, he switched to a recumbent ICE Trike and has since shown what real perseverance looks like. Despite challenges with mobility, Jimmy has mastered riding one-handed, steering, braking and changing gears all at once.
This year, his hard work and dedication paid off with victory in a tough international competition that included sprints, endurance racing, and even a hill climb!
Jimmy has already achieved incredible feats, including a 1,000-mile ride from Roscoff in France to Santander in Spain. Now, he’s looking ahead to next year’s championships in Maastricht, while also racing closer to home in the UK.
What an inspiration - congratulations, Jimmy!
Philippe Descubes
We’d also like to say a huge congratulations to Philippe Descubes, who achieved brilliant results across multiple races at the championships. Philippe, based in France, has been a long-standing ICE dealer and ambassador for recumbent cycling, and we are so grateful to have him as a trusted partner in the ICE family. His success is a true reflection of his skill, dedication, and love for the sport.
